SUMMARY:Educating the 21st Century Student, Preserving Our Past, Findi
 ng Our Future
DESCRIPTION:\n The 5 school districts on the North Fork will be hosti
ng an evening forum facilitated by Ian Jukes.  He will use a format b
ased on his new book Living on the Future Edge (*see below) to lead a
dialogue entitled, Educating the 21st Century Student, Preserving Our
Past, Finding Our Future.  The 90 minute session begins at 6:30 p.m.
 (following a brief 30 minute light refreshment period).\n \n\nPreserv
ing the Past, Finding the Future:A Community Forum Led by Ian Jukes\n
\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“In today's world we face technological applications
in daily living the likes of which, even a few short years ago, would
have been inconceivable. This is a digital age, with interactive devic
es storing and recording our life experience and containing overwhelmi
ng amounts of knowledge. This has become the essence of life in the 21
st Century, but more specifically the lives of our children. As studen
ts, they have a whole new way of thinking and learning that many educa
tors are unable to understand, and that most schools are unable to acc
 ommodate.”                          --from T
he 21st Century Fluency Project\n \nPlease join us for an important a
nd unique event—on Monday, March 21st,  where North Fork school dis
tricts and representatives from our communities will come together to
grapple with these questions:\n·         How do we accommodat
e the digital age in our schools?\n·         How do we preser
ve the character of our tight knit towns while still preparing our stu
dents to be productive participants in a global community?\n·
How do we do update our schools to best serve our children, e
ven in these fiscally challenging times?\nIn order to come up with opt
imal solutions, we’re asking the whole community to participate. The
focus of this forum is to create a rich dialogue where all voices are
heard—business, civic, and spiritual leaders; teachers, students, a
nd parents; and all those who are concerned about the future of our sc
hools. Nationally renowned guest presenter Ian Jukes, founder of The 2
1st Century Fluency Project, will facilitate the discussion and encour
age us all to find ways to innovate, engage, and inspire.\n \nBe a Pa
