  \nThe information provided in this workshop directly addresses the i
 ssues of bullying and cyberbullying in schools and recognizes the dang
 ers they pose. The root causes of the problem will be shared and speci
 fic strategies to create positive culture and climate in schools at al
 l levels will be emphasized. Intervention and prevention strategies wi
 ll be suggested with focus on the creation of a bully intervention tea
 m to implement a specific reporting system and a hierarchy of conseque
 nces . At the core of this session will be a link between social and e
 motional learning and the eradication of bullying. The skills necessar
 y to empower the bystander, form alliances, befriend the victim, and d
 e-escalate the bully will be taught.\nThe New York State  Dignity for
  All Students Act  requires that all schools have an effective bully
  prevention plan and appropriately trained personnel in each school bu
 ilding by July, 2012.  This workshop will provide you with the knowl
 edge needed to meet the requirements of the new law.\n   Dr. Karen Sir
 is,  elementary school principal and adjunct  professor understands 
 the importance of creating schools with a culture of caring, tolerance
 , and positive communication among all constituents.  Her goal is to 
 create a school environment that  prevents \"bullying\" before it beg
 ins.  She has  been  featured on NBC and CBS News and  ivillage.co
 m  for the work  she has  done creating  a  Caring Majority of \"
 upstanding\" students in her Long Island  School. Her research on All
